With the lights flashing and the siren blaring, Michael Fisher was chasing a vehicle. The driver has just shot another man in the head and was still shooting. Fisher had no choice. He had to catch the suspect and put him in cuffs. But the moment he did, everything changed. He realized he no longer wanted to be a cop.
In a race to hire more officers, KRQE News 13 has learned the Albuquerque Police Department does not have enough patrol cars for all of them. The union said if the goal is to have more police presence out on the streets, the city has to live up to the promise it made to these officers when they joined the academy.
Albuquerque Police swarmed the Ben. E. Keith warehouse earlier in November responding to reports of an active shooter. Three men were wounded and taken to UNM Hospital. The shooter, Waid Melton, eventually killed himself near Placitas while on the phone with officers.
A man is dead and two children are in the hospital Tuesday night after a crash in northeast Albuquerque, according to police. Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said the crash happened at Central and Eubank NE, and three people fled on foot from the crash.
