Above and Beyond

This section is dedicated to Officer Appreciation articles only.

Last week, while finishing a report at the Prisoner Transport Center (PTC), Officer Jose Carrasco was approached by a 19-year-old man who was carrying several suitcases.  The man advised Officer Jose Carrasco he had flown in from Hawaii and was on his way to The New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) in Roswell, New Mexico, but had lost his Greyhound bus ticket. Officer Jose Carrasco offered to pay for his bus ticket to get him to NMMI but was told that the last bus to Roswell already left.

At 0500 Officer Jose Carrasco contacted Detective Matthew Morales who had a son that was currently enrolled at NMMI to see if he could help.  Detective Morales gave Officer Jose Carrasco several phone numbers to contact NMMI to see if they could assist in any way.  Detective Morales arranged for Officer Jose Carrasco to stay with the young man until he could get to work. Officer Jose Carrasco then contacted Detective James Bergman and asked him to stay with the young man until he could get to the downtown police station. Detective Bergman (being a former State Police Officer) took it upon himself to contact some of his former co-workers from State Police. He asked them for some assistance to get the young man to The New Mexico Military Institute.  The State police officers immediately wanted to help in any way. A State police officer picked the 19-year-old young man up at the main police station and transported him halfway to Roswell.  Another State police officer met them at the halfway point and took over the rest of the way transporting the young man to The New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) in Roswell safely.

~Great job to everyone involved. APD and State Police went "Above and Beyond" to help this young man.

We appreciate you.~
